Meet Underthing: Lingerie Celebrating Women of Color

Sometimes you need a boost to feel sexy.

For whatever reason, those sweatpants aren't going to cut it today. Today, you want to feel the thrill of keeping a delicate secret. Today, you want to sashay down the street. Today, you want to feel flirtatious, exuberant, joyful for no apparent reason. 

Lingerie can do just that. 

And right now, lingerie is having a moment. No longer do you have to wait for an adoring partner to purchase a set for you for a special night that only happens once in a blue moon. No, the lingerie of today is for YOU.

You wear it for yourself. Just to feel sexy. Just to feel inspired. Just to feel empowered. Just to feel like you.

So it's incredible to see brands hopping on the partner-free party bus like Savage by Fenty and a brand that has recently come to our attention, Underthing. 

Underthing is a brand of lingerie that was created especially for women of color. As founder Kyla Brown puts it:

"I am realizing that as a Christian-raised Black woman in Amerikkka there are very distinct reasons why claiming my sexuality came hard to me. The way I claim my sexuality feels clearer for me in lingerie. I feel powerful! Like, oh shit, I'm a WOMAN and I'm gonna get what's mine type of powerful. In lingerie, I remember that I make shit happen and look good while doing it."

We're all for claiming our sexuality and recognizing how powerful and transformative this simple action can be. As women of color, we have been told historically and culturally that we are "less than". As we come into our power, we reject these assertions and finally grow to love and accept our incredible beauty in all shapes, sizes, and colors. As Kyla says:

"Enjoying sex is your birthright and there is so much trying to take that away from us. Underthing is here because it's time we became aware and unashamed of being sexual beings. Underthing is a safe space for women to feel free by wearing lingerie for no one's enjoyment but their own!"

Amen to that!
